February 2020 Valentine's Post with self-love meditation

Let's dedicate this blog to Valentine's Day!
Whether you're single or in a relationship, let's use this month to focus on the love you have for yourself. Developing self-love is incredibly important as we can be our own worst critics!

All we need is Love..
Learning to love ourselves isn't always taught to us by our peers in childhood and it's not a lesson we learn about at school, but it's so important as it determines how we feel about ourselves.  How we feel about ourself determines our thoughts, which determines our feelings, which determines our actions and behaviour.  The more we develop an inner sense of love for ourself, the more our outside world will start to reflect this back to us.  It is possible to love yourself without loving every tiny little thing, acceptance of our flaws is enough to help fuel self love. When we develop our love for self, we tend to feel more comfortable, confident, and relaxed with who we are and within our own body.
There are many ways to develop love for yourself, here's a couple of examples you may want to try below;

A great exercise you can do is to think about the people you love and write a list of WHY you love them.
 Write as many things you can think of for each person, for example; is it because they are kind? funny? thoughtful? warm hearted?  Once you have finished your list of why you love other people, go back through it and tick each one that you also are, for example: are you kind? funny? thoughtful? warm hearted?
You will find a lot of the qualities you love and admire in others you can find in yourself, now reflect this love that you feel for others based on their beautiful qualities back to yourself, for also having these same beautiful qualities. These people already love you, just as you love them; the trick to self love is to stay mindful of this, and reminding yourself of the reasons why you love yourself and why you are good enough, as and when you need a self-love top me up.

Another way to develop self love, is to treat and talk to yourself how you would a best friend.  Often we can be our own worst enemies with the things we tell ourselves in our own minds.  instead of telling yourself you are not good enough, or you don't look good enough, or you can't do this and you can't do that;  Flip your thoughts to the opposite, thoughts of a more caring and supporting nature (talk to yourself how you would a best friend)

The benefits of developing self-love

* increased confidence
* increased inner peace
* feeling more positive about yourself and your own abilities
* a deeper sense of knowing you are good enough
* make better decisions as you are coming from a place of inner strength

5 MINUTE VALENTINE'S MEDITATION FOR SELF-LOVE!
You can do this in silence or play relaxing music in the background.

Sitting quietly, close your eyes, bring your focus to the breath, taking deeper breaths into the body, and on the out-breath allow yourself to make the sound of breath releasing.
Repeat this a few times until you feel your body relax. Allow yourself to relax and your mind to become still with each breath.
Now imagine a pink light at the top of your head. This pink light represents love. See this pink light coming down into your face, behind your eyes, down your cheeks, into your neck, your shoulders, chest, and coming into your heart. See it swirling around in a clockwise direction in your heart, filling your heart with love.
This is love for you, there's a never-ending supply of it.
While still bringing those deeper breaths into the body, allowing your body to relax further with each breath, allow yourself to sit here for a while, breathing the pink light into your heart. Allow yourself to sit in this abundance of love and peace, feeling nourished, safe, and cherished.
Repeat this for 5 minutes or more to feel a difference.

Repeat as often as needed for a little rest and a "love top me up."
