Prevent Dry Dehydrated Skin in Autumn 15 Oct 2019

KEEPING WARM IN AUTUMN
October brings both cooler weather and a drop in humidity. When seasons change, you need to take extra care to ensure your skin remains in good condition.
At this time, your body will also be trying to repair the damage done by exposure to UV rays and you'll need to take extra care to ensure you feel as healthy and energised as possible.

JUMPERS - NOT RADIATORS
As the weather gets colder, it's tempting to turn the radiators on - or up! However, that will result in dry, stale air both at home and in the workplace. This can result in itchy, dry skin for everyone and an increase in eczema for those who suffer from that particular condition.
So, instead, try an extra jumper to keep you warm and be kind to your skin, and / or at least invest in some deeply nourishing skin products to give you that added extra hydration and moisture.

DRINKING PLENTY
In summer, we can't get enough water to cool us down and re-hydrate ourselves. But in autumn, we drink less, so our skin tries to get its moisture from oil production instead.
To counteract this, make sure you drink plenty this autumn. Remember: those pumpkin spice coffees are very seasonal and tasty, but if you drink caffeine in large quantities, it can have a diuretic effect which is going to limit the amount of liquid you're absorbing. Not to mention all those calories!
Indulge in that morning coffee-based treat, but for the rest of the day, keep calories down and hydration up by switching to just water. If you crave a bit of flavour, why not try an infusion bottle? If you want something hot to warm up those cold hands, try decaffeinated coffee instead, or perhaps green tea which is rich in antioxidants. Even just hot water with a slice of lemon in it is a great way to stay warm and hydrated.

EAT WELL FOR GOOD SKIN
As winter draws closer, our bodies naturally crave high-fat foods. Such a diet can result in an outbreak of spots, so try to regulate your cravings with healthy snacks and seasonal fruits and vegetables. Almonds, in particular, are not only filled with nutrients, but studies have found that they can make you feel full and stave off those cravings. Look at where you can incorporate more warming, nutritional foods such as warmed porridge oats, with milk, nuts, seeds, warmed fruit, and homemade soups, with lots of veg with your evening meal.

REDUCE STRESS BY TAKING SOME ME-TIME
Stress can be a factor which contributes to eczema flare-ups, so be sure that you take some time out of your day to relax. And there's no better way to relax than by booking yourself a massage or treatment with Roman Beauty.
